The Simpsons: ADYL Promo - Season 1, Episode 1

Description

I seem to be back in a Simpsons mood lately. Not so much in watching the show, but rather in the potential of simpspin's :iconsimpspin: fan-made idea for a spinoff, which he calls "Maggie and Eric". It's essentially his interpretation of what The Simpsons and Springfield would be like 12 years into the future (from the time of the original show). Bart and Lisa are now adults and are in the world of work, Maggie's a tomboyish teenager, and a new Simpson child is introduced named Eric, whom has adopted more of Marge's characteristics, making him the good boy of the family.

If you want more info, check out the last image I did for this idea which I did a while ago: Maggie and Eric Tribute by The-Quill-Warrior

So why am I drawing another image for this spinoff again you may be asking? Well like I said, I really an fascinated with the potential of this spinoff idea. If they made is an official thing, I think it could really work. The biggest problem with The Simpsons is that it hasn't changed since it started, and after nearly 30 years of being on-air, it's now become tiresome to watch. So if they make a new spinoff, with all the characters being older, maybe introduce some new characters, and change and introduce new locales, it could shine as well as the original show did back when it first aired.

simpspin :iconsimpspin: even went so far as to make a whole episode guide for this spinoff. Check it out: babysimpson.co.uk/index.php?ac…

As you can see, despite how meticulously detailed it is, the guide suffers from a few problems. There are even more seasons than the original show planned in it (almost twice as many now actually), and most of them come across as too dramatic and outdated (this was all written like a decade ago though, so that's to be expected).

So in my fascination with this spinoff, I decided to redraft the guide myself in my own time. Updating the episodes by sticking with the good ideas and scrapping the bad ones, and even combining some episodes' plots together. I even added some episodes of my own in there.

I'm not going to show you my own guide, but what I will do is make promo cards for some of the episodes. You know how some official Simpsons episodes have poster artwork made for them? That's essentially what these are. And hopefully you too could see how this spinoff might work.

This is the promo card for the first episode of the first season. I will make more, but only in my own time. And I'm not going to do promo cards for all of the episodes, because I listed too many for that to happen.

Also, I renamed the show from "Maggie and Eric" to "The Simpsons: A Dozen Years Later". I'm not trying to take this idea away from simpspin :iconsimpspin: or anything, I'm just adding my own personal taste into it to make it seem more like a realistic idea.

And lastly, I also redesigned some of the characters. Eric, Marge and Homer look pretty much the same as before. Lisa has slightly more stylish hair with earrings. Maggie's teenage design is a complement to her design from the official Simpsons episode "Lisa's Wedding", but I've also added in a spiked bracelet and a beanie for extra detail. And Bart is a shaggy wreck only for the purposes of this episode. His design will change permanently in an episode later down the line.

SEASON 1, EPISODE 1 ~ A D'OH-ZEN YEARS LATER

Marge records her family to show her twice-removed cousin Renee (and by extension the audience), of what has happened to the Simpson family in the past 12 years from the original Simpsons show up to now:

Eric: She tells the story of how another romantic fling with Homer led to her being pregnant for the fourth time, despite Homer's assumed sterility from working in the Nuclear Plant for so long. This leads to the family panicking and/or preparing for the new baby. The result is Eric, a baby boy who has adopted Marge's characteristics this time, including her blue hair and throaty voice.

Homer: The new Simpson child leads to even more financial woes for the family, so Homer pleads to Mr. Burns for a raise. But Mr. Burns taunts him and signs Homer's name on Burns' will to receive the C.E.O. position of the Nuclear Plant, and then planning to shred the will in an act of spite. Only for Burns to have a heart attack immediately after he wrote it and die, leaving Homer the new official C.E.O. of the Nuclear Plant. However, because Smithers' name is in the will to receive Burns' vast fortune and a high portion of stock in the plant, Homer doesn't exactly get to live a life of rich luxury, but at least his pay increased to continue to support his family. He even hires a new assistant named Ilina, whom is the proper and professional compared to Homer's unchanged goofy personality.

Maggie: Maggie starts to feel ignored by Marge when she takes care of Eric, and feels she has lost her title as the cute girl of the family. So she searches for a new identity by conforming with either Bart, Lisa and Homer, but neither one suits her and thus she runs away. But when Bart's friends see how good she is on a skateboard, Maggie decides to take the role of a tough girl.

Bart: When Bart manages to get into college, only to flunk it shortly after, he needs a new job, and thus Homer uses his CEO position to get Bart a job as a safety inspector of Sector 7-G. But after he and some new friends of his cause trouble and accidentally mutates one of the plant's workers into a big fish monster, Homer is forced to fire him, leading Bart to become the lazy wreck he is right now.

Lisa: Lisa's amazing grades and prowess in school have earned her a scholarship in Oxford. But when she sees a travelling band, she's reminded of how much she loves playing the sax, yet can't have enough time to play in Oxford. So she decides to take her gap year and tour with them as a jazz musician.
